Locust Valley High School is proud to announce that for the second year in a row, two of our students are National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists.  Our new honorees are Mary Leah Milnes and Emma DeBeer Charno. Both students are members of our senior class. Both will be eligible to qualify as National Merit Finalists.

The students earned this outstanding national recognition from the College Board for their exceptional achievements on the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Tests (PSAT).  Based on student achievement and sponsored annually by the College Board, the ability to earn this designation is an honor which is afforded to only 1% of the more than 1,500,000 students from across our country who achieve the highest scores on the PSATs which are taken by juniors across our country every year. In addition, the College Board shares the names of students who earn these distinctions with colleges and universities.

Advancing to National Merit Semifinalist status will afford these extremely academically talented students with the opportunity to qualify for more than $36,000,000 in National Merit Scholarships which will be announced during the spring of 2011.

Last year, our two National Merit Semifinalists, Eric Padilla and Corinne Hastings went on to qualify for Finalist status.  Eric is attending Harvard University and Corinne is attending Vassar College.

Congratulations to Mary Leah and Emma for distinguishing themselves in such an outstanding manner and continuing our tradition of excellence!
