Please also allow me to remind you of a few important procedures for the close of the school year:

    Last Day of Classes

Thursday, June 6th will be the last day of classes for students in grades 9-12.  This is also the last day of regular food service.  Students staying for both sessions of a testing day should bring their lunch.

    Final Grades

For a full year course, teachers will be calculating final grades based on the entire year’s work, the fulfillment of all course requirements (e.g., lab reports, term papers, projects, homework, and class participation) and the results of Regents and final examinations.

    School and Regents examinations

Every student in a Regents class is required to sit for the corresponding Regents examination.  As the exit examination for the course, the exam will constitute one-fifth of the final grade for the year.  Enclosed please find an examination schedule.  All students are to arrive on time for the start of exams.

AbsencesAny student absent from a scheduled exam must provide the Attendance Office with a physician’s note within 24 hours. (As per School Board Policy, any student who does not provide proper documentation will receive a grade of a zero for the exam.)

Conflicts – Due to the diversity of student schedules, a few students will be scheduled to take more than one exam at the same time. Students in this situation must notify teachers of classes that have exam conflicts.  Students in this situation will be advised as to the procedures involved.

Please note the time of the examinations

Ø  Morning exams start at 8:00 a.m.  Afternoon exams start at 12:00 p.m.  All students are to report to their assigned rooms fifteen minutes before the start of the exam.

Ø  School examinations are 2 hours.  Students may leave the exam room after 1 ½ hours.

Ø  Regents examinations are 3 hours.  New York State requires students to stay at the morning session exams until 10:00 a.m. at afternoon session exams until 2:00 p.m.

Ø  Lateness:  Once the exams start, students may enter the exam area only with a late pass from the Attendance Office.

Regents:  No student may begin a Regents exam after 10:00 a.m. for morning exams and 2:00 p.m. for afternoon exams.

School exams:  No student may begin a school exam after 9:00 a.m. for morning exams and 1:00 p.m. for afternoon exams.

Ø  If a student arrives late to any part of a school final/Regents, he/she must complete that part of the examination within the regular time period.  All materials (including communication devices) will be placed at the front or sides of the examination room prior to the test.

    Use of Communications Devices

Students may not use any communications device while taking any examination, either in the room where the test is being administered or while on a supervised break (such as a bathroom visit).  Such devices include, but are not limited to, CD and audiocassette players, radios, cell phones, pagers, MP3 players, personal digital assistants, video devices and associated headphones, headsets, microphones or earplugs.

The use of any of these devices can result in the invalidation of a student’s exam, which could result in a final exam grade of zero.

Lockers must be completely cleared out, and all locks must be turned in to the Senior High office by the end of the school day on Wednesday, June 5th.

Return of library books, textbooks and athletic equipment

Every student has been loaned textbooks.  Some have borrowed library books and/or athletic equipment.  All school items must be returned prior to the last day of classes.  The only exceptions are textbooks that students are using in preparation for examinations. (These must be brought to the exam.)  Students are reminded that they should not return a textbook without receiving the corresponding book card!  If a textbook is not returned and students do not clear their accounts before the end of the school year, the student will not receive a report card or schedule for next year.

    Availability of Guidance Services

Questions about summer credit recovery, August Regents exams, and next year’s courses for your child should be directed to your child’s guidance counselor.  All guidance counselors will be available through Wednesday, June 26th, during school hours.

Please check the District website for any updates.  Best wishes for a safe, happy and restful summer.
